Matt grew up in the small farming town of Pana, IL. His passion for aviation began early in life and he began flying in 1994 as a freshman at Parks College where he studied to be an airline pilot. Shortly after graduation, Matt became a Certified Flight Instructor for Parks College building up flying time and experience with the objective to fly for a commercial airline. Within 2 years, Matt gained the experience and ratings he needed and became a pilot for Trans States Airlines. Over the next 9 years Matt was First Officer and flew the ATR 42/72, then the Embraer EMB145. He transitioned to Captain and became a check airman for the training department and was responsible for teaching and instructing new airline pilots.
Matt began working at AeroNavData in 2009, and owing to his depth of skills and broad aviation knowledge, has been involved with nearly every team at the company. Matt is currently the team lead for the company’s Special Projects organization which researches, develops, and initiates new projects in conjunction with AeroNavData’s strategic plan.
Matt is passionate about teamwork and making sure everyone on his team is actively involved in the analysis and conclusions for each project. He approaches all issues and problems that come up, both while he was at the airlines and at AeroNavData, working with his entire team – knowing that you get the best quality results when each person contributes and applies what they know best.
Family is the most important part of Matt’s very busy and rewarding life. He is extremely proud to be a family man and is very involved with the life he shares with his wife Janelle, their three children (2 boys and a girl), and both of their extended families. They enjoy nothing more than spending time with the entire family. Matt and Janelle are actively involved in volunteering and working on fundraisers at their children’s school and at church and assisting with donations to St. Jude’s Research to help find a cure for childhood cancer.
Matt played a lot of sports growing up and currently coaches both of his sons Basketball, Soccer, and Baseball teams – and he knows that his little girl will join in the fun when she is old enough! Most weekends are spent at sporting events for the kids or getting together with his extended family or going out to enjoy their favorite restaurants around Metro St. Louis and Southern Illinois.
Friends, family and AeroNavData colleagues would describe Matt as friendly, approachable, kind and easy to get along and work with – and one who puts others before himself.
